Hi All

Just before I start to build some mountboard racking, does anyone have a couple of the Ultimo mountboard storage systems for sale? Is the Ultimo system good, or would you go ahead and build your own?

DIY mountboard example builds would be good to see.

I could never get on with vertical storage of mountboards since they bent continually unless the racking was jammed packed with board. I have always stored boards flat and in the latest workshop I used Wickes T&G floor panels spaced with 28mm battens. Here is a pic of it under construction. The top was the workbench

I always use horizontal storage, never a fan of vertical storage.

Nothing on offer or available??? Just have to start building.

There are a couple for sale on a alternative forum but they want Brewster's millions and its a long journey to collect for me. By the time you do the maths, it would be cheaper to go for new at Lion. Alternative shopping outlets are available.

The mount board mfgs would always recommend storing horizontally. I know most ready made storage systems are vertical, but you must expect the boards to take on a permanent bend, which is annoying when you try to use them.
I would strongly suggest to build your own horizontal construction. Its the way to go.

Horizontal storage is a nightmare unless you only stock a few colours, much more than 5 sheets deep and you'll have trouble getting the bottom one or two out, so that means loads of very shallow shelf compartment slots with the shelves themselves actually thicker than that 5 sheets of board - unless they are metal maybe - but if they are metal and get too cold .... or too warm, the boards will buckle anyway.

I don't have an issue with bowing boards stored vertically - some may bow if there is room but mostly there isn't; even if they do it's only slight and they still lay flat on the CMC ....................... except suedette boards, they are terrible!

Backing boards - Artbak, foam board and correx - also stored vertically without issue.

I've seen Misterdiy's system and it's brilliant. Very well constructed, practical and with added work top :D

I too am not a fan of vertical storage so keep mine in a nine drawer plan chest. Each drawer can hold twenty sheets. The colours I use most I undo the packs and put the sheets away alternatively. This way I only need to move one sheet to get to another. This is a little time consuming at the time but allows inspection of quality soon after delivery and saves time later when I need to get a sheet out. Also, minimises marking. Like Misterdiy's system I have another worktop. Other boards are kept under the bed.
